CCO ANNOUNCEMENTS May 1st, 2024

May 1, 2024

Short Announcements today. See more details in the Announcements dated April 26, particularly regarding Upcoming Events.

I. REHEARSAL MONDAY MAY 6

Playing with Jaedon last Monday was a treat! And certainly a prediction of a fantastic concert shaping up for June 15!

Andrew Chung has asked us to prepare Copland ’s “Tender Land", Barber’s Violin Concerto, and Smythe’s “Two Interlinked French Songs” for May 6. Note we will be be playing only the first two movements of the Barber Concerto - not the third.

Musicians must bring their own sheet music and music stand to the rehearsal at the 519. The CCO website, cco.orchestra.org, Musicians’ Only portal has most of the sheet music for the upcoming concert, but see CCO Librarian, Bob Mitchell, at the rehearsal for the Tender Land Suite and the Barber Violin Concerto. These must be signed for and returned at the end of the June 15 concert. This music is rented. The CCO will be charged $50 for each missing or damaged copy, and it offends the terms of our rentals to keep copies.

II. FUNDRAISING INITIATIVES & VOLUNTEERS

(i) Cookies - the cookies provided by the musicians for past concert intermissions are popular and attract donations.  Although a generous donor is sponsoring the post-concert reception on June 15, including some simple refreshments, the 40th Anniversary Committee is asking that musicians donate cookies for the post-concert refreshment table as well.

(ii) Selling Programme Ads: We now have volunteers to canvas local businesses in the Church Street Village and on Parliament Street, selling ads in our June 15 programme. They could use a hand, and no one has yet volunteered to canvas along the Danforth in Riverdale, particularly around Eastminster Church. Interested? Please email emitchell1727@gmail.co

(iii) 50/50 Draw - We will once again have a 50/50 draw on June 15. Volunteers are welcome to sell raffle tickets before the concert and at the intermission. Volunteers are needed for other concert tasks too, such as ticket taking, ushering, setting out refreshments, helping to decorate the reception space, etc. If you know someone who would like to volunteer, please email emitchell1727@gmail.com.
