CCO Announcements October 13th 2023

OCTOBER 13, 2023

Trust everyone had a good long weekend. In Canada we have so much to be thankful for!

1. REHEARSALS - Can we start at 7:15pm?

Back to our regular rehearsals at The 519, 7:30pm start, Monday October 16.

The 519 has permitted the CCO to use the ballroom starting at 7:00pm. Since rehearsal time is tight, should we/can we start our rehearsals earlier - maybe 7:00pm or 7:15pm? To be discussed at the rehearsal.

Music Links: Go to the Musicians Only portal on CCOorchestra.org, then SHEET MUSIC, for links to the music for the December 9 holiday concert.

You will find a new work posted there: “Christmas Singalong” by John Finnegan.

https://www.ccorchestra.org/forum/general-discussion/christmas-singalong - to get parts for the “Christmas Singalong”.

A full list of the sheet music for the holiday concert is on : https://www.ccorchestra.org/sheet-music

We’ll be rehearsing the Mozart Arias with Rebecca Gray later in October.

If you really cannot print your part, please contact the CCO’s Librarian, Bob Mitchell, and ask him to bring one for you: robertmitchell@rogers.com.

To see "Twas the Night Before Christmas" performed with an orchestra and a narrator,  watch this Youtube performance of the Bill Holcombe score:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCeGi1xJTHE The CCO's version will be more fun since our narrator is drag star Fay Slift.)

Please check in on the Attendance Sheet with the Door Volunteer at rehearsals.

2. USING THE MUSICIANS’ FORUM

On the Musicians Only portal at CCOorchestrra.org there is a “Musicians Forum” that Tetsuya Kobayashi created pre-pandemic; it has fallen into disuse. It is only available to everyone with an account on the Musicians Only portal.

The Musicians Forum is a way for CCO members to connect directly with one another. It is only accessible to those who can access the Musicians Only portal.

The members can use the Forum for any legitimate purpose, such as:

  • advertising a performance

  • offering tickets you want to sell or give away

  • advertising GoFundMe projects or other fundraising activities you are involved in

  • looking for support for a petition you want to support

  • selling or giving away instruments, furniture, books, or music

  • etc. - you get the idea!

A Disclaimer: The Musicians Forum is for the use of CCO members who choose to communicate with other members. The CCO’s Board of Directors does not review or monitor it, unless someone raises a concern. Neither the CCO nor the Board are responsible for its content. If you see a post that you believe is inappropriate or worrying for any reason at all, please bring it to the attention of any member of the Board of Directors for review and possible action.

3. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, NOV. 6, 7:00PM - Different Location!

When: Monday November 6, 7:00pm. The AGM will be held as part of the rehearsal, and times have been adjusted- starts 7:00, ends 10:00pm.

Where:      Holy Name Parish, 71 Gough Avenue (on the corner with the Danforth, one block west of Pape Station)

Purpose: review Reports from the Treasurer, the Chair, and others; see the financial statements, vote on candidates for the Board of Directors and other issues.

Eligibility to Vote: under the By-Laws, the only persons eligible to vote are those who were members in good standing 30 days prior to the AGM. The Door Volunteers will have a Membership List at the next few rehearsals. Contact emitchell1727@gmail.com if you are not on the List, or not eligible to vote, and think you should be.

The AGM Agenda and other documents required by the By-Laws will be circulated by email to eligible members in advance of the AGM.

4.  VOLUNTEERS

Right now, everyone’s “volunteer” work is to circulate and post the first CCO poster, advertising this season’s concerts and seeking donations. Please send it by email to all your friends and family, and post it around your neighbourhood. The Door Volunteers have more posters available at the rehearsals.

The CCO can always use more volunteers, and right now there remains one known vacancy for a Director on the new Board.

Please consider becoming a Director, joining a Committee, or recommending that someone you know may be interested in volunteering. The current Committees are:

  • Programme Committee

  • Concert Committee

  • Membership and Communications Committee

  • Finance Committee

  • By-Laws Committee

  • 40th Anniversary Planning Committee.

5. APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP

Most musicians have now joined or renewed their memberships. Thank you. Your name should be on the Membership List with the Door Volunteer, and you should be eligible to vote at the upcoming AGM.

For those who have not completed the necessary two forms (Application and Media Consent- attached ), or not paid their fees ($120 for the season, $60 for students), please do so. The forms can be completed electronically; fees can be paid electronically to  treasurer@ccorchestra.org, with a note saying who the fee payment is for. Both forms and fees can also be submitted at the Monday rehearsals, to a Door Volunteer.

Potential new musician members can attend two trial rehearsals; fees become due and payable with the third rehearsal attended, and you will be asked about fee payment. If fee payment is causing you financial hardship, please speak to the Chair for a reduction or waiver, or email her at emitchell1727@gmail.com. Financial hardship should not be a reason to miss the joy of making music together.

Although the CCO’s Vaccination and COVID Safety Policies are in abeyance, COVID is making a resurgence. Please do not attend rehearsals if you have any symptoms or are ill, and consider wearing a mask if you have been exposed to colds, flu or COVID - masks help with all three. The Door Volunteers have masks available.
